Reflections

The picture at the left is one of my favorites. I love the reflection in the broken windows. It shows the contrast between beauty and it’s antonym roughness. The clean reflection of the beautiful blue sky and vibrant green trees in the window panes blinds you so that you barely even notice the missing pane. You admire and reflect on the beauty of imperfection.

What do you see when you look at your reflection? Do you see yourself as you are, or do you focus on your imperfections? Those minor imperfections that others barely even notice. And I don’t mean only outward beauty, since hey, we are all aging and not quite as attractive as we once were! But all of you.

Do you really see what others see – the you that is loving and caring. The you that is always searching for ways to better yourself. To create positivity in your circle of friends, co-workers and family. Or do you focus on those lapses of judgement in your day when you said something out of haste or anger – while 95% of the day was positive and upbeat? When you begin to focus on the positive and loving “window panes” of your reflection, you start to nurture them. You then allow your beauty to grow, just as a seedling grows with the proper light and nutrients, and sometimes a little pruning too.

It is said that everyone we meet is reflecting something back to us. I am extremely lucky to be celebrating 34 years of marriage today. The twists and turns in my life brought me to meet this wonderful man. He came into my life, placed there for reasons beyond our knowing. We have grown through so many adventures, trials and victories over the years. I am so thankful that I have shared this journey with someone that sees the good in me. He has helped me to see through the reflection of who I am, how to look at all the window panes, not just the broken ones. Together we have created a life of beautiful imperfection.
