The beauty of Machu Picchu took my breath away, both emotionally and physically. Even with the altitude meds I was still searching for oxygen. But, I did it! We didn’t climb too high, just enough for an awesome view. As we were leaving there were claps of thunder and then the downpour arrived!
The journey up the mountain was laden with switchbacks and rocky paths, the drive itself was enough to get you woozie! I think next time I will need to take the trail- nah, might be a bit much! Plus Steve wants to go and I know he prefers the train/bus combo!
The journey is very similar to the cancer journey. After navigating the many switchbacks, and rocks in the road, the reward is a fresh perspective - a fresh chapter. I am not who I was, I am stronger and the possibilities for the future are endless.
But can I tell you I really missed the children at the hospital. I couldn’t wait to get back to them and see how they were doing. One of my favorites (I know you are not supposed to have them, but sometimes you just do) she had her feeding tube removed and was able to leave her bed and play games. I even got her to dance a little this week! Tomorrow we will say goodbye, it will be very sad to not see them again, but will continue to pray for health and happiness in their future. Even though this volunteer placement was gut-wrenching it was so rewarding to see the children and the parents smile. Who could resist with our wacky outfits!

Thank you 2019 Peru Odyssey tribe for sharing this breathtaking experience with me - and thanks to my many donors that made this trip possible.
